Persistence

From Bubberstation Wiki

Introduction

The Persistence is a Syndicate landcrawler deployed on Indecipheres and Icemoon under the legal guise of being a Cybersun mining operation. After the treaty signed between NanoTrasen Incorporated and Cybersun Industries (heavily influenced by the Galactic Federation), Cybersun was given rights to mine on the relevant planets alongside NanoTrasen; albeit at a much smaller scale than their rival counterpart. This treaty made the stealthy approach of the prior DS-4 Dauntless all but redundant. It was for this reason that Cybersun Executives got together and funded a new base to be deployed onto the planet, fitted with many of the same tools as the Dauntless but expanded for proper mining and foregoing stealth entirely.

While from the outside the Persistence looks to be exactly what it claims to be, a mining operation, inside tells a different story. Monitoring and spying equipment dot the bridge, and a brig to hold NanoTrasen hostages for ransom is nestled away within the corner. All of which the Syndicate make especially sure their rivals up above are woefully unaware of. This Operational Secrecy forms the core of the rules for all operatives working within the rig, and failing to maintain it could result in the loss of the rig, or the loss of their lives. It is for this reason that maintaining it is so strict that failing to upkeep it can result in your superiors killing you, or your subordinates overthrowing you.

Rules Regarding the Role

The specifics of Misused Mechanics differ for each ghost role. For example, as a member of Syndicate ghost roles, you are broadly prohibited from interacting with the station unless you submit an OPFOR request and it is approved by an admin. Additionally, crew must leave ghost roles well enough alone and not attempt to raid ghost role areas, whether they are occupied or not. The Persistence is always in a position of being hostile to the station, though they are not antagonists. In the case of the Persistence, it is generally reasonable that most characters do not know its name, due to it being an unmarked land-crawler.

For Syndicate ghost roles:

  • You are allowed to sell lesser contraband on the Black Market Uplink net.
  • You are allowed to kill any intruders on your space without warning.
  • You are allowed to message the station through various means, such as PDAs or communications, at your own risk.

Here are examples of actions that are strictly forbidden:

  • Selling/giving any TC items to the station.
  • Protecting/guarding/assisting active antagonists.
  • Attacking miners/taking hostages.
  • Selling high contraband items, like mechs or guns.

Operational Secrecy

Operational Secrecy on board the Persistence revolves around three major concepts and parts of the Rig which are to be kept top secret at all times.

  1. You are a Syndicate Operative fronting as a Cybersun Employee.
  2. There is a brig on board potentially filled with NanoTrasen hostages.
  3. The Rig is equipped with a multitude of spying equipment and illegal technology.

These are the core tenants of OpSec, and the basics of what must be kept hidden from NanoTrasen at all costs. Regardless of your affiliation to other Syndicate entities, if questioned by a non-staff you must insist that you are a legal Cybersun Employee. Any staff member found breaching OpSec, either by revealing who they work for or otherwise making the station aware of hostages on board, can face punishment at the discretion of the commanding staff or SYNCOM. Breach of OpSec may potentially be disregarded in rare cases (specifically in cases where an OpFor was permitted via staff. If you are unsure, always AHELP first.)

Ghost Roles and Station Interactions

The Persistence is a ghost role, and as such is beholden to the Ghost role server rules. This means that the round does not revolve around them, and they are not to interact with the station in any significant, round changing ways without submitting an OpFor or AHelping. This includes:

  • Going onto the station for any reason.
  • Harboring any antagonist and providing them with assistance.
  • Using station research points to research on their server.
  • False announcements over the radio, or impersonating crew

Minor interactions such as small quips over the radio may be done at the operatives risk, and Command Staff may forbid these interactions at any time. If a situation has unfolded and Persistence is required to speak to the station, this interaction should be handled by the relevant Command Staff only. Besides that, interactions on lavaland are not beholden to the usual AHelp or OpFor rules but you should still avoid affecting the round in a significant manner. Persistence may freely interact with any other ghost role on Lavaland/Icemoon such as Ashwalkers or Podpeople, and may also freely interact with non-planetside ghost roles such as Tarkon.

Persistence Hostages

On board the Persistence is a brig fitted with three hostage cryostasis sleepers, allowing for up to three Hostage Ghost Roles to join the Persistence as prisoners. To play as a hostage on board the Persistence you are beholden to the same ghost role rules as the Persistence, in addition to the Prisoner rules on board the station. This means you may not break out of the prison without submitting an OpFor. Unlike the station however, the Persistence staff is not obligated to deal with you if you are being a nuisance. The Persistence staff is allowed to, for any reason, remove you from the round via killing you and throwing your body into lava. Logically the Persistence staff should not abuse this right and will only do so if you’re a nuisance, have attempted to escape, or have overall made yourself an annoyance.

Chain of Command

The Rig is staffed by a total of eleven operatives. Three of them command roles. The chain of command goes as follows:

  • The Admiral, Liaison, and Master at Arms are all considered Command Staff and are higher ranked than other operatives.
  • From those, the Admiral is the highest ranking operative, followed by the Liaison and then the Master at Arms
  • If no Command Staff is present, overall command may be decided among the operatives, or they may choose to have no command and all be equally ranked.

All operatives are beholden to the orders of their direct superiors. They are expected to obey reasonable orders and perform their assigned task to completion. Any complaints about a commanding officer must be taken up with a different commanding officer, who may then attempt to mediate the situation, or failing that contact SYNCOM. Failing any proper mediation, if a member of command staff is acting untenable via giving unreasonable orders or flagrantly breaching OpSec, the staff may usurp command from them via a coup. All reasonable actions must first be taken to alleviate the situation, but if no other options arise the staff may inform SYNCOM and forcefully take command of the Rig. This is not a licence to coup your commanding staff solely because you do not like them. It is generally in your best interest to attempt to work these situations out beforehand in-character. Remember, there’s another player behind those characters just like you.

Role Guide

This section is a short and easy bite sized guide to get any potential new players started in understanding their role and how to play it.

Persistence Admiral

As Admiral, you are assigned by SYNCOM to take overall command of the Rig and answer only to them. As commander of the Rig you are expected to oversee all operations on board and ensure the Rig is running smoothly, as well as ensure that OpSec is maintained. You may give orders and set rules for your operatives as you see fit, as long as it does not directly contradict stated SoP. Additionally, if a situation arises between the Rig and the Station you must be the first to attempt to mediate it. Command Staff are held to a higher standard of Roleplay, and OOC rules adherence. Do not take the role unless you are prepared to handle this responsibility.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be aware of Persistence SoP, and how it relates to you.
  • Understand the basic operation of the Rig, how it works, and what your operatives do.
  • Be prepared to have to perform critical work such as starting up power if the relevant operative is not on the Rig.

Persistence Corporate Liaison

As Corporate Liaison, your role is mediation and inter-corporate relations first and foremost. You are the direct line to most Corporations and Entities within the Syndicate’s web of factions and groups. You are responsible for ensuring that each factions’ individual needs are met, and prevent the staff from arguing among themselves over inter- or extra- factional rivalries. You are additionally responsible for the interrogation process. You are the first to be informed if a hostage may be a potential hire, and are expected to perform this role first, albeit you may defer to the Brig Officer, Master at Arms, or Admiral. Command Staff are held to a higher standard of Roleplay, and OOC rules adherence. Do not take the role unless you are prepared to handle this responsibility.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be aware of Persistence SoP, and how it relates to you.
  • Be prepared to alleviate issues that may arise within the staff
  • Understand the basics of interrogations, and how to go about performing one if a hostage is present.

Persistence Master at Arms

As the Master at Arms, you preside solely over the armory on board the station. While each operative is given their own personal self defense sidearm in case of emergencies, you are responsible for handing out additional firearms or body armor in case of emergencies. You also preside over the brig if a Brig Officer isn’t present, and are one of four members of staff who is expected to be able to perform interrogations. Protection of the Rig is paramount, and you are the FIRST line of defense against any potential intruder, or a brig breakout. You are given access to a slew of security gear, and are the most well armed operative on board, even more so than the Admiral. Command Staff are held to a higher standard of Roleplay, and OOC rules adherence. Do not take the role unless you are prepared to handle this responsibility.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Be aware of Persistence SoP, and how it relates to you.
  • Be prepared to use your overwhelming firepower to defend the Rig from hostile intruders, whether local wildlife or boarders.
  • Preside over the Brig if no Brig Officer is present.
  • Preside over the armory and be prepared to hand out gear as required.

Persistence Morale Officer

The Morale Officer is tasked with providing entertainment and morale to the Rig Staff via whatever means you are most capable or fit to provide. Morale Officer is a catch-all term for the multitude of RP heavy jobs normally on board a station. Do you want to be a Clown? Your MoDsuit comes preinstalled with the Nuclear Honkprative skin! Do you wish to be a Chaplain? You are stocked with all of the piety gear required to do so! Maybe a mime? You can do that too! Or maybe you want to be the Rig Stripper? Absolutely in your power! (Within reason and with respect to staff preferences). Just try not to annoy your fellow operatives, as nobody likes an unfunny clown.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know how to provide morale to the staff via any means at your disposal.
  • Avoid annoying them in the process.

Persistence Brig Officer

The Brig Officer is the overall head of the Persistence Brig, and you are mainly there to oversee both it and whoever resides within it. As Brig Officer you are equipped with a slew of security gear to detain unruly prisoners. Additionally you are also expected to be able to perform interrogations, potentially alongside the Liaison. You should be capable of performing these by yourself if required. You can read up on how Persistence interrogations work by viewing the Persistence channels in the Bubberstation Discords. While you are not command staff, in cases in which there are no command staff present you are the most likely candidate to be taking overall command of the Rig.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Be capable of overseeing the Brig, and ensuring prisoner needs are met.
  • Be ready to detain or kill any unruly prisoner by the means at your disposal.
  • Be knowledgeable on Interrogations, how to perform them, and where to put the papers.

Persistence Cargo Technician

As Cargo Technician, your workspace is the Cargo Bay. You are tasked with ensuring that it is cleared out and clean, and you handle cargo orders, the disposal chute, and the main entrance to the Persistence. The Cargo Technician also doubles as a miner, and you may travel out of the Rig at your own leisure to mine or be asked to do so by a higher up. You are given the same starting equipment as a station mine to facilitate this. You also have access to a hauler MoDsuit for ease of moving along crates throughout the cargo bay to store them neatly.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know how to clean and maintain the Cargo Bay.
  • Know how to use the express supply console and bounty pad.
  • Be capable of surviving outside of the rig to mine if required.

Persistence Medical Officer

Medical Officers on board the Persistence fulfill all three jobs within medical. Those being Doctor, Chemist, and Paramedic. You are expected to be able to provide medical attention to any wounded staff on the Rig, and are given the entire medbay to aid you in this endeavor. You are provided with an Interdyne MoDsuit, which drastically increases your speed, allowing you to save any of your fellow staff from whatever fate has befallen them. Additionally the genetics setup is inside of your medical bay alongside the virology set up, allowing you to perform that role if you so desire.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know how to provide medical aid, and also perform basic surgery.
  • Be knowledgeable on chemicals, and the basics of how to make them.
  • Be prepared to assist any of your fellow staff at any time, and potentially have to venture outside to do so.

Persistence Researcher

As the Researcher on board the Persistence, you are tasked with researching technology for the rest of the rig staff to use to further the goals of the rig. While this may be as simple as stealing from NanoTrasen’s own research, you are still expected to be capable of performing certain duties within your role. Knowing how to perform ordinance, what items are required for the experimental scanner, and the basics of xenobiology, are all immensely helpful to your role of providing the Persistence with the best gear possible as soon as possible.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know how to ‘acquire’ technology from NanoTrasen without alerting them.
  • Know the basics of ordinance and how to perform it.
  • Understand how the experimental scanner works and how to use it.

Persistence General Staff

You, as the General Staff on board the rig, are tasked with providing quality nutrition and imbibement to the staff. You are given a fancy bar, alongside a dining room, a large kitchen, and a very spacious botany with which to perform your work.  While the staff has access to basic meals courtesy of Donk Co., you shouldn’t simply let them consume hot pockets and hot dogs for the entire deployment. You have access to a supply console with which to order whatever you need on the Rig’s budget. Outside of cooking, you can experiment with botany as you see fit. Just be sure not to mix up what’s food and what’s deadly poison!

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know the basics of cooking decent food.
  • Understand how to use botany to get yourself better ingredients.
  • Know how to mix basic drinks for the staff.

Persistence Engineer

As the Engineer on board the rig you are first and foremost tasked with providing the rig with power and atmosphere. The Rig’s engineering bay is your station, and it is mixed in with atmospherics. At the start of every deployment your first and foremost goal is to get the fish engine running by placing all of the fish into the tank and feeding them the entire bowl of food. If for some reason the fish die or the engine is damaged, the Turbine is a backup powersource with which you may utilize. Besides that, you are also tasked with repairing the Rig if it sustains damages.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know how to set up the fish engine and set power.
  • Know the basics of atmospherics and how to fix things such as plasma floods.
  • Be capable of fixing exterior and interior damage to the rig.

Persistence Sanitation Technician

The Sanitation Technician’s sole goal on board the Rig is to ensure that it is kept clean for the rest of the staff. You are given an overkill of tools with which to go about this task, and you are expected to be vigilant throughout the deployment. While you are to keep the Rig clean, you must never under any circumstances attempt to clean the DS-2 Memorial, as to disrespect those who were lost with its destruction. Let the stains of battle be shown proudly, so that all who see it may remember that it went down fighting.

Recommended Knowledge:

  • Know how to clean the Rig.
  • Be ready to help clean up any spills on a moments notice
  • Never under any circumstance clean the DS-2 Memorial.
