What is the purpose of this page?

This is to give a clear, defined standard for M07 for those of you who need it.

How should I handle M07?

M07

Elevated Sentencing

The scope of the crime(s) committed, or repeated negative behavior, warrant the charge be elevated to a higher offence for punishment in increments of one level per instance.[1]

For the purposes of this Modifier, Corporate and Security crimes escalate to immediate demotion. Capital crimes escalate to execution.

Crimes do not stack across tiers; only the highest crime is used at any given point.

Crimes of the same tier may escalate, and only one crime per incident may be applied: the highest; this means that one moderate crime and one major crime will always prefer the sentence of a major crime.

Crimes committed on a mass scale, no matter how minor, are not the same as a single crime of the same type, and should be elevated by one level for multiple affected areas, or two for a large portion of the station. These should stack.

The intent of this is to elevate sentencing for subsequent trips to the brig, to prevent cases where people bounce off the brig over and over without being able to receive a definitive punishment. If your usage of this modifier conflicts with the intent listed above, you're probably misusing it.

M07 FAQ

Can I chain severity and repeat trips to the brig together to raise the sentence by two levels?

Yes, this is intended.

Can crimes from the same incident be stacked?

No, you must be brought to the brig to receive an elevated sentence.

Do crimes have to be of the same severity to escalate?

Severity has its own escalation rules, but this can be combined with repeat offense escalation if needed. The severity does not need to be the same.

Can crimes committed during the same incident be stacked?

No, they cannot. Only the highest crime is used.

  1. One instance is the space between trips to the brig.
