So you want to become an admin, and have no idea where to start? You've come to the right wiki page! We'll take you through the process, step by step - and hopefully by the end, you'll have a successful application on your hands.

Step 1: Experience

The first thing you'll need to do is have experience here on Bubberstation. This means playing the game, being active in the community, and following the rules. For people with admin experience from other comparable servers, we tend to be more lenient with playtime expectations. Having a few notes or bans in your background isn't an obstacle, but we do want to see that you've avoided getting new ones for some time!

Step 2: Criteria

We have certain expectations for admins - no list can be exhaustive, but this exists as a guideline for you.

Admins should be:

  • Able to show consistent activity. Long term stability is better than spikes of playtime.
  • Able to work within the team. Remain constructive and civil when disagreements happen.
  • Able to learn from criticism. Don't take things personally, mistakes are expected at first.
  • Able to understand nuance. Know when to be lenient and when to be strict in applying the rules.
  • Able to avoid burnout. This varies by person, but take care of yourself and your mental health.

Admins should be capable of:

  • Having a comfortable grasp on the rules
  • Sticking to standards of admin conduct
  • Being professional around other players
  • Logdiving and investigating tickets
  • Interacting with the other admins
  • Handling ban and note appeals

It's okay if you don't know how to do some of these tasks yet - we'll teach you.

Step 3: Applying

When you're ready to apply, go to #contact-staff on our Discord, and open a staff application ticket. Make sure you're vetted, this is a prerequisite for acceptance. The questions will be:

  • What is your ckey and living playtime?
  • Why do you want to be an admin for Bubberstation?
  • Do you have any previous admin experience?
  • What flaws does the server have, and how would you fix them?
  • What is the server's goal, and how will you move us towards it?

Feel free to add more information once the ticket is submitted - we'd love to know more about you! Remember, this isn't a job interview, we want to see how you actually think and feel about things, whether negative or positive, and it'll help you catch a trainer's eye if your answers reflect that!

Step 4: Waiting

Once you've applied, the application will be visible to all admins at or above the rank of Trial Admin. It'll be discussed internally, and members of the team may ask you additional questions. If your application is good and an Admin Trainer is interested, they will take it up and get headmin approval for you to become an Admin Candidate. Most applications fail at this stage, unfortunately - there are only so many trainers, and only so much time that they have. We'll let you know within two weeks if we're unable to go ahead with it, and leave you some feedback for next time.

Step 5: Approval

If you've caught an Admin Trainer's eye, you'll know it when you receive an offer to admin! This means you'll be put through our training process. This will teach you the admin tools and the basics of investigating and making rulings. The trainer who accepted your application will be working closely with you early on, offering feedback and advice - ask them questions, make use of their experience! One week after you complete your training, your trainer will update headmins, and you'll either be promoted to Trial Admin, or your candidacy will be discontinued. As a Trial Admin, you'll have all the powers of a full Game Admin, giving you a chance to shine. Your trainer is still there to help you, but you should be more able to stand on your own by this point. Don't fear mistakes, this is your time to learn, get to know the team, and develop your admin senses generally. After two months, you'll have your final review, either becoming a Game Admin, or having your trial discontinued.
